Dunleith Champions Marietta City Schools Reading Bowl

Dunleith Elementary School took home the first place title at the Marietta City Schools Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl, held Friday at Marietta High School.

The Jeopardy!-style competition included all six elementary schools in the district, testing fifth and sixth grade students reading comprehension on books read by all participants.

The event was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Marietta, who provided the books, medals, and ribbons for the kids, as well as reading lights that were sent home with each participant.

Both Dunleith and Marietta Center for Advanced Academics, which placed second, will be sent to the regional competition next month.

“As a district, we’ve invested heavily in making sure our children can read, and this is a shining example of how that comes to fruition,” said district spokesman Chris Fiore. “We know that we have been innovative and aggressive with our approaches, and we hope that it positively impacts every teacher and every student in Marietta City Schools.”
