Woodstock Man Convicted of Kidnapping and False Imprisonment

A Cherokee County jury has found a Woodstock man guilty of forcibly carrying and detaining a woman who was attempting to leave his apartment.

After a four-day trial, Cameron Burnett Long, 45, was found guilty of kidnapping and false imprisonment Jan. 25, the Cherokee County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Superior Court Judge David Cannon has announced Long will be sentenced at a later date.

According to the district attorney’s office, on March 7, 2022, an off-duty Cobb County police officer called 911 to report that he had witnessed a domestic dispute in which a man forcibly carried a woman into an apartment.

Woodstock Police Department investigated the report, and officers determined that Long and the woman were in a dating relationship that had a history of domestic violence.

After a verbal argument, the woman decided to spend the night at a family member’s home, prosecutors said, and the argument continued while her belongings were being packed into garbage bags.

After Long threw one of the garbage bags at her, the woman fled the apartment, per the district attorney’s office. He chased her into the parking lot, he wrestled her to the ground, then picked her up against her will and carried her back into the apartment. There, he pinned her on the floor with his forearm, but she eventually was able to use pepper spray to escape, prosecutors said.
