Car Catches Fire on Northside Cherokee Boulevard in Canton

Northside Cherokee Boulevard in Canton is fully open after it was partially shut down due to a car fire, Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Service reports.

Firefighters were dispatched just before noon Thursday to a vehicle fire on Northside Cherokee Boulevard in front of Northside Hospital Cherokee. Firefighters found a 2010 BMW sedan on fire in the southbound lanes of the road.

Initially both southbound lanes and one northbound lane was closed while firefighters worked to put out the fire, though the hospital entrance was still accessible.

One southbound lane and the other northbound lane were reopened, and by 2:22 all lanes were open again.

No injuries were reported, Lt. Michael Sims told the Tribune.

The driver was in the car when the fire started, but with the help of another driver nearby was able to escape, according to the fire department.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
