Cobb to Consider Pushing Lower Roswell Road Revamp Forward

MARIETTA — It’s been over a decade since a revamp of Lower Roswell Road was first proposed to the Cobb Board of Commissioners. And it may still see delays.

At its regular meeting Tuesday, the commission will consider moving forward with the resurfacing project on the 0.6 miles between Woodlawn Drive and Davidson Road — which would add a raised median, additional turn lanes, extend existing sidewalks, and create a multi-use trail on the south side of Lower Roswell Road.

The Cobb Department of Transportation has said the project would improve safety in the area, but local business owners and nearby residents have expressed vehement opposition, leading at least two commissioners to commit to voting “no” on the project at Tuesday’s meeting.

“I know you’ve all been getting a lot of emails from residents and the businesses to remove this from the agenda,” Commissioner JoAnn Birrell said. “I can’t support this at this time.”

Commissioner Keli Gambrill expressed similar concerns to the MDJ after Monday’s planning meeting, stating she could not, in good conscious, support a project that was surrounded by so much controversy.
