Authorities are no longer searching for a Black SUV in relation to a fatal crash on Veterans Memorial Highway Tuesday.
Cobb Police initially reported an unidentified vehicle had struck biker Melissa Winslow, 32, of Marietta, and fled the scene.
It is now reported that a motorcycle driven by Christopher Johnson, 38, of Mableton, crashed into Winslow as she attempted to cross the road, and sent her flying into the westbound lanes.
The crash separated Johnson from his motorcycle, and authorities pronounced him dead on the scene. Winslow was rushed to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital to be treated for serious injuries.
Though Winslow was caught under the SUV after being hit by Johnson, police now say it was not a hit-and-run.
“We are no longer actively searching for the black SUV,” Cobb Police wrote in a press release Thursday. “It has been confirmed that the driver of the vehicle stopped to ensure they had not hit anything else before leaving the scene.”
