Women Indicted in Cherokee County Accused of Multi-State Shoplifting Operation

Two women have been indicted by a Cherokee County grand jury on charges that they stole over $100,000 worth of items from Target locations across four states.

Claudia Hornea, 33, of Edmonds, Wash., and Daiana Anna-Maria Ionita, 17, from Fort Worth, Texas, were indicted by a Cherokee County grand jury Feb. 12. They are charged with three counts of violating the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.

According to the indictment, between Sept. 1 and Oct. 17 the two women stole items from multiple Target stores in Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina and Texas.

Two of the alleged thefts were from the Target stores in Canton and Woodstock. Other Georgia locations mentioned in the indictment were Acworth, Alpharetta, Dunwoody, Flowery Branch, Marietta and Roswell.

The indictment charges Hornea and Ionita with targeting primarily skin care products, but also baby formula, electronic devices, TVs, gaming devices and accessories, ink cartridges and a scooter, using a box or tote to hide the items and resell them for profit. They are accused of using a driver to drop off and stage during the theft, using juveniles and co-conspirators, using a lookout to avoid law enforcement, and employing counter-surveillance techniques to prevent apprehension. The indictment mentions at least two anonymous, unindicted co-conspirators.
