On February 10th, two faculty members and three students from Kennesaw State University’s (KSU) Norman J. Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences volunteered to clean up the historic Mt. Sinai Cemetery on Dobbins Air Reserve Base. The cemetery is home to the graves of freed slaves and their families from the Jonesville community, which was displaced in 1942. The cleanup was part of an initiative to maintain the site.

The KSU faculty members, Dr. Teresa Razcek and Dr. Seneca Vaught, and students George Ampac, Wesley Fogg and William Thompson, participated in the cleanup. They cleared vegetation, collected debris, and helped maintain the cemetery. Their participation was significant as it took place during Black History Month.

KSU Freshman William Thompson shared his appreciation for participating in the cleanup. He stated that learning about the history of Jonesville and Mt. Sinai highlighted the importance of remembering and respecting these communities. He felt that the cleanup was a meaningful gesture.
