Canton Applying for Grant for Pedestrian Bridge

Canton officials have taken a step toward applying for grant funding for the proposed River Mill Pedestrian Bridge.

The Canton City Council unanimously approved the resolution of support authorizing the preparation, submission and funding commitment of a Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Program Grant pre-application for the River Mill Pedestrian Bridge project Sept. 12.

The proposed $6.1 million River Mill Pedestrian Bridge project, currently in the design phase, aims to build a bridge from The Mill on Etowah to the Etowah trail network on the west side of the Etowah River, as well as a put in/take out location.

The purpose of the bridge is to provide a connection between The Mill on Etowah and a future proposed pedestrian trail running adjacent to the Etowah River, according to city documents.

City staff has identified the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Program Grant as a potential funding source. The grant offers up to $3 million in matching funds for projects that support local parks and trails of state and regional significance.
