Cobb County Water System Reports 4 Sewage Overflows

The Cobb County Water System has reported four sewer overflows.

The first was an estimated 56,000 gallon wastewater sewer overflow that occurred on Sept. 27.

The overflow, resulting from inflow, occurred at 3252 Barnwell Trace in Powder Springs and discharged into Noses Creek.

The Water System was notified of the overflow on Sept. 27 at 2:20 p.m. and the overflow was stopped on Sept. 27 at 5:15 p.m.

Water System employees upon arrival found a manhole discharging sewage and creek water with the lid unsecured. Sewage and creek water flowed from the manhole directly into flood waters around the manhole. The crew could not stop the overflow due to the area being flooded. The crew monitored the area until the manhole stopped spilling. No discoloration, solids or debris were observed by the crew while on site.

The second was an estimated 40,000 gallon wastewater sewer overflow that occurred on Sept. 27.

The overflow, resulting from a wash out, occurred at 1218 Seven Springs Circle in Marietta and discharged into a tributary to Bishop Creek.
