Visitors to the Ball Ground Veterans Memorial can now see a sculpture of a bald eagle there, created by a local artist.
The city commissioned Ball Ground native Andy Fowler to create the eagle sculpture in honor of veterans, and it was completed and installed in time for Veterans Day.
Creating the sculpture made sense for Fowler because of his family history, he said.
“ I got to do something that would honor the veterans of not only Ball Ground, but all of Cherokee County and all of Georgia and the United States,” Fowler said. “My father was in the Navy, my paternal grandfather was in the Army, and I had tons of uncles who served in the Army. I just continually thought about my family members who served and all the other servicemen and women who have.”
Fowler was influenced by his family who served in the military and didn’t take the opportunity for granted.
“I took a lot of pride in it. It meant a lot to me to be asked to do it,” Fowler said.
Ball Ground City Manager Eric Wilmarth said he was impressed by Fowler’s artistic talent, believing he is the best at what he does.
