Cherokee County Denies Two Requests for Proposed Townhomes

Cherokee County commissioners have denied two of three requests related to a proposed townhome development near Patriots Park.

On Dec. 17, the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners voted 3-2 to deny a request from Ashton Woods Homes to make text amendments to the Bells Ferry Community Design District Regulating Plan and voted 3-2 to deny an exceptional variance request.

Commissioners Corey Ragsdale and Steve West voted against both motions.

Commissioners unanimously voted to modify a zoning condition to require just one left turn lane into the development on Kellogg Creek Road. The original condition required two left turn lanes.

“I just don’t see it being a townhome site, therefore, I don’t see a need to make any adjustments to support townhomes here,” Commission Chair Harry Johnston said.

Ashton Woods was seeking to build 102 townhomes on 10.3 acres at the corner of Kellogg Creek Road and Victory Drive. Per the most recently submitted plan, the townhomes would range from 1,400 square feet to 1,800 square feet. The proposed density was 11.95 units per acre.
