Georgia receives more than $1 million in multi-state Medicaid fraud settlement

An inpatient behavioral health system with facilities in metro Atlanta has reached a multi-million dollar, multi-state settlement over Medicare and Medicaid fraud.

Georgia gets almost $1.1 million dollars in restitution in the settlement with Acadia Healthcare Company, which operates inpatient behavioral health facilities across the country. The company operates Lakeview Behavioral Health in Norcross and Riverwoods Behavioral Health System in Riverdale.

Attorney General Chris Carr’s office says the facilities reportedly took in patients who weren’t eligible for treatment, didn’t discharge those who no longer needed care, and didn’t provide care per federal and state regulations between 2014 and 2017…
