Cindy Farmer, Northside Hospital Cherokee

For Cynthia ‘Cindy’ Farmer, the idea of being a nurse came to her when she was a 16-year-old volunteer at a nursing home in Piedmont, Alabama. She and a friend filled water pitchers for the patients.

“As we did that and watched the nurses do their jobs, I just fell in love with (nursing),” said Farmer, a 2025 AJC Nurse Excellence Award winner.

It would be more than a decade later that Farmer could go to college and pursue her nursing degree while living in Florida with her husband, Bruce, a career airman with the U.S. Air Force…
