Catholic school students elect their own kid pope

GEORGIA ( WGNO ) — In Friday’s “Lunchtime Lagniappe,” the world is celebrating a new pope, and one Catholic School in Georgia is hoping one of its students may follow in Pope Leo XIV ‘s footsteps.

During the week of the conclave, second graders at Pinecrest Academy held their own conclave. Students played cardinals and elected a new pope from their class.

This was purely educational to teach the kids about the conclave process. The students had to vote, and then after the ballots were burned and a kid pope was selected, then white smoke appeared.

Then the pretend-pontiff appeared, a student known as Pope David, who made his rounds around campus being driven in a golf cart labeled the “Pope Mobile.”
