Mindful of the discomfort that comes with back issues, surgeons at Northside Hospital have completed the health system’s first ultra-minimally invasive endoscopic spine surgery. On May 22, Dr. Vamsi Kancherla, an orthopedic surgeon, used Arthrex endoscopic spine technology to complete the procedure at Northside Hospital Gwinnett in Lawrenceville.
The new technology uses a pencil-sized endoscope to gain access to small areas of the spine through a tiny incision, eliminating the need for large incisions required for traditional back surgery, minimizing disruption and damage to nearby muscles and reducing the need to remove bone.
