Gwinnett County Man Receives Life Sentence Without Parole for Lithonia Bar Shooting Murder

A Gwinnett County man has been sentenced to a life term without the chance for parole after a jury found him guilty of multiple charges in connection with a deadly shooting outside a Lithonia bar and grill. The verdict was handed down for Henry Maurice Anderson, 39, who was convicted on June 25, for the murder of Ceazar Abernathy, 34, as reported by the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office.

The incident occurred on April 6, 2024, when DeKalb County Police responded to a call outside the establishment on the 2900 block of Evans Mill Road. Abernathy was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the surveillance footage, Abernathy exited his vehicle and engaged in a brief encounter with a man identified as Anderson before attempting to flee and being fatally shot. Anderson was later detained less than a mile away, matching the description of the suspect and in possession of a firearm and hallucinogenic mushrooms, the DA’s release detailed.

Despite Anderson’s denial of being at the site of the shooting and claiming to have been under the influence of mushrooms during the time, shell casings found at the scene matched his firearm. DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Courtney L. Johnson sentenced Anderson to life without parole, with an additional 15 years to be served consecutively, informed the District Attorney’s news update…
