Honoring Influence and Impact: Georgia Asian Times Celebrates AAPI Leaders at Annual Awards Gala

Duluth, July 11, 2025 — In a glittering evening that combined elegance with purpose, the Georgia Asian Times hosted its annual 25 Most Influential Asian American Pacific Islanders in Georgia Awards Gala, spotlighting trailblazing individuals whose work continues to shape the cultural, civic, and economic fabric of the state.

Held at Canton House in Duluth, the 2025 gala welcomed more than 170 distinguished guests, including Hon. Mio Maeda, Consul General of Japan; Georgia Supreme Court Justice Carla Wong McMillian; Gwinnett County Commissioner Kirkland Carden; Chamblee Mayor Brian Mock; State Senator Nabilah Islam; Dr. Philip Hong, the first AAPI Dean at the University of Georgia; and Roman Dakare, Deputy Director of Gwinnett County Economic Development.

Justice McMillian, the first Asian American elected to the Georgia judiciary, delivered the keynote address, offering a poignant reflection on her journey from a small Southern town to the state’s highest court.
