Gwinnett County Proposes Maintaining Current Property Tax Rate, Public Hearings Scheduled

Taxpayers in Gwinnett County may not see an increase in their property tax rate this year if the Board of Commissioners’ plans hold steady. According to a statement from Gwinnett County’s official website, the proposed millage rate for the general fund will remain at 6.950 mills, which mirrors last year’s rate. The decision comes with a requirement for public hearings, set for Aug. 12 and 19, offering Gwinnett County residents a chance to weigh in on the matter.

Under Georgian law, a rollback millage rate is calculated annually to generate the same revenue as the previous year, absent any changes in property assessments. For 2025, Gwinnett’s rollback millage rate would be 6.607 mills. However, as the Commissioners consider keeping the rate at 6.950, they must announce an effective tax hike—0.343 mills above the rollback rate. Notices regarding the adoption of millage rate will go out via the Gwinnett Daily Post starting tomorrow.

Nicole Love Hendrickson, Gwinnett County’s Chairwoman, emphasized the government’s commitment to fiscal responsibility amid rising costs. “Just like our residents, Gwinnett County Government is facing increasing costs of basic materials essential for County operations,” Hendrickson explained, as quoted on the county’s website. “Through these challenges, we remain committed to being good stewards of the tax dollars that fund our operations.
