CANTON – Several hundred Cherokee County citizens, first responders, active military, veterans and visitors – some quietly weeping – listened raptly in Canton Rotary Park as District Attorney Susan Treadaway described the impact the 2001 Sept. 11 attacks on America had on her.
Treadaway, the keynote speaker at Cherokee County’s annual Patriot Day, told the audience, “On September 11, 2001, I was a first-year law student at Georgia State University in Atlanta.” She recounted the shocked reactions that morning as students learned, one after the other, of hijacked planes crashing and ending the lives of nearly 3,000 people.
“Law professors decided to cancel classes for the day, but most students didn’t leave’” Treadaway said. “We gathered around computers to watch live coverage of the events as they unfolded. Some students were in tears. I was one of them.”…
