Did you know Gwinnett has a veterans museum? The Gwinnett County Veterans Memorial Museum is a nonprofit, volunteer-run organization located on the first floor of the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse at 185 W Crogan Street in Lawrenceville.
The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and is free to all. GCVMM is a tribute to veterans who have or are currently serving our country with collections representing all major conflicts throughout American history. Many artifacts were donated or on loan from local Gwinnett citizens.
The GCVMM started as a rescue mission of the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse and the grave of eight soldiers killed in action during the Creek Indian War. After more than 100 years of service, the Historic Courthouse was rendered obsolete with the opening of the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center in 1988. The Gwinnett County Veterans Council reached out to the county government and the City of Lawrenceville to ensure the grave would not be disturbed due to any redevelopment of the courthouse square.
