A Georgia couple was recently the target of pine straw scammers who offered to spread $30 worth of pine straw at their home, but ended up demanding $1,600.
A Jackson County Sheriff’s Office report shows that, unlike many victims, who pay all or some of the exorbitant fee, this couple stood their ground and refused.
The fraud attempt occurred on Sept. 19 at their home near Hoschton, Georgia, in Jackson County, where they were approached by two men who said they had spread pine straw at a nearby house and offered to spread some leftover straw for $30.
