SHELBY, N.C. — A teacher at a North Carolina middle school is accused of using another woman’s Social Security number in order to gain employment with the school district.
The Shelby Police Department in North Carolina shared more details on Thursday in a news release. Officers said they were alerted to a fraud-related incident reported in Gwinnett County, Georgia, involving the misuse of a woman’s Social Security number. Investigators said they determined the number was used by 58-year-old Janet Yevette Martin to gain employment as a teacher at Shelby Middle School.
Warrants for Martin’s arrest were obtained on September 22, 2025. She’s charged with two counts of identity theft, two counts of forgery of an instrument, two counts of uttering a forged instrument, and one count of obtaining property by false pretenses…
