City of Jasper staff have proposed a general fund budget that will not fund any new positions or capital improvement projects for 2026, which still leaves them $363,000 over projected revenue.
City Manager Brandon Douglas made the recommendation at a budget work session last week, right after department heads and city partners presented their requests and wish lists for next year. Those requests, if funded in full, would result in $10.9 million in expences, with a deficit of $3.05 million. Estimated revenue for the city in 2026 is $7.93 million.
“We’re supposed to present a more balanced budget to you all,” he said, “so things are just going to get cut because it’s not sustainable….How do you keep the status quo, and keep services? That means you have to sacrifice.”…
