19-year-old sentenced to 65 years in prison for crash that killed 6 family members

JOHNSON COUNTY, Texas (Gray News) – A 19-year-old was sentenced to 65 years in prison for causing a crash on Dec. 26, 2023, that killed six people. He was 17 at the time.

Luke Garrett Resecker veered into oncoming traffic, striking a minivan and killing six members of the same family.

Of the seven people in the minivan, 43-year-old Lokesh Pothabutala was the only survivor. His wife, Naveena, their two children, 9-year-old Nishidha and 10-year-old Krithik, and Naveena’s parents, Nageswararao and Sitamahalakshmi Ponnada, all died. They are all from Alpharetta, Georgia. The van’s driver, Rushil Barri, also died. He was a cousin of the family who lived in Texas.
