Georgia man convicted in infant’s death gets new hearing after 20+ years in prison

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A Gwinnett County judge has ordered a new evidentiary hearing for a Georgia man serving life in prison for the death of his infant son, giving him another chance to prove he deserves a new trial.

Danyel Smith has spent more than 20 years in prison for murdering his 2-month-old son, Chandler, in 2003. Prosecutors told the jury it was a “shaken baby” case.

Gwinnett County Superior Court Judge Kimberly Gallant said she wants all the same medical experts to testify again before making her decision, rather than reading 1,000 pages of transcripts…
