FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (WTVY) – John R. Powell was named deputy chief of the Flowery Branch Police Department, marking another chapter in a career that included a four-year tenure as chief of the Dothan Police Department.
Powell’s career has spanned more than 40 years, during which he was arrested multiple times and was fired from a job in South Georgia.
Legal troubles in Georgia
The Glynn County grand jury indicted Powell on perjury charges. The charges alleged he lied to cover up an affair one of his narcotics officers had with a confidential informant. The Georgia Supreme Court threw out those charges.
