STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – A Gwinnett County jury has convicted 39-year-old Edward Rodley Smith, Jr. of malice murder for the October 2022 shooting death of 33-year-old Breana Marie Rogers. Smith was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
According to investigators, Rogers had been staying with Smith at a Stone Mountain hotel on the night of the shooting. On October 7, 2022, she attempted to leave the hotel room to escape from him. Smith followed her, and within 30 minutes, she was fatally shot four times — three to her back and one to the back of her head.
Several witnesses called 911 reporting a domestic altercation on Stone Mountain Highway involving Smith’s BMW. One witness reported hearing Rogers say, “I’m tired of this.” Minutes later, additional callers reported a crash and a man firing a gun at the scene…
