CANTON – Hundreds of volunteers for Cherokee Thanksgiving were at Williamson Bros. Bar-B-Q in Canton Thursday to pack and deliver nearly 2,700 meals for residents of Cherokee and Pickens counties.
Cherokee Thanksgiving serves free Thanksgiving meals for anyone who is in need of one or who is not able to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner, as well as for first responders and others who have to work or can’t be home for the holiday.
The initiative started 33 years ago by Don and Lila Stevens as an outreach of Canton First Methodist Church. It’s grown from about 200 meals to close to 2,700 meals this year, said Cherokee Thanksgiving Coordinator Cheryl McBratney Mosley…
