BUFORD, Ga. — The Lake Lanier Association has wrapped up the third phase of its shoreline protection effort, reinforcing another stretch of vulnerable shoreline as erosion continues to threaten some of the lake’s most beloved islands.
Known as Project Armor, the latest phase added rip rap — large, strategically placed rock — along one linear mile of shoreline across 16 erosion-prone areas. The association said these sites have taken the brunt of heavy boat traffic, which has steadily worn away the islands that dot the middle of Lake Lanier.
