Whataburger closes 2 north Georgia locations

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Whataburger has expanded into Georgia over the last few years to great fanfare, but the Texas-based chain announced it would close two north Georgia restaurants Monday.

The locations at 254 Riley Road in Dahlonega and 700 U.S. 29 in Athens closed Monday, the company said.

“This decision helps focus our efforts where we can make the biggest impact, ensuring our Guests continue to enjoy the high-quality, delicious food and genuine hospitality they’ve come to expect from Whataburger. Into 2026 and beyond, guests will find new Whataburger locations opening throughout Georgia including our newest locations in Suwanee and Carrolton coming soon,” the company said…
