STATE FINALS: ‘Mythical’ natty on the line in Buford-Carrollton 6A showdown

BUFORD, Ga. — No matter the classification, Buford has shown it can compete for state titles. Between 2001 and 2021, the Wolves won 13 state titles spanning six different classifications.

In 2022, they moved up to the state’s largest class at the time (7A) with the hopes that they could become the only school in Georgia history to win titles in all seven classes. They made the playoffs both years, but could not get past the quarterfinal round in what many experts call one of the top two high school divisions in the nation.

When the Georgia High School Association went back to just six classes in 2024, Buford remained in the largest class with the dream of winning a state title at the highest level also remaining intact.

They will finally get that chance on Tuesday. The Wolves will take on Carrollton at 8 p.m. at Mercedes-Benz Stadium for the Class 6A championship…
