Buford (GA) High School sets new benchmark for athletic facilities

Buford City Schools officially opened the new Phillip Beard Stadium in the summer of 2025, following a two-year construction process that began in 2023. Designed by Breaux & Associates and built by Charles Black Construction, the 32-acre, standalone facility is one of the most advanced high school stadiums in the nation, highlighted by innovation, tradition, and community focus.

The stadium features a FieldTurf synthetic surface installed by Precision Turf, complete with professional-grade drainage and base work. A true showpiece is the two-sided digital scoreboard, provided by Digital Scoreboards, measuring 44 feet by 82 feet. One side faces the field, while the reverse acts as a 24/7 advertising billboard to the adjacent highway and parking lot, doubling the district’s corporate sponsorship revenue in its first year.

DB Integration outfitted the stadium with a cutting-edge sound system and 140 yards of digital ribbon boards for immersive game-day experiences. Concession areas now include climate-controlled service stations, along with walk-in freezers and refrigerators to meet large-scale event demands.

Though designed primarily for athletics, Phillip Beard Stadium will also host community concerts and outdoor movie nights. A historical touchstone — the refurbished 1880s school bell — stands proudly in a new bell tower, honoring Buford’s deep-rooted traditions…
