Gainesville man arrested after infant seriously injured

Authorities say a Gainesville man is behind bars on child cruelty charges after one of his infant children was hospitalized in “grave condition” with head trauma.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office said Julian Chase Jalbert, Sr., age 27, was arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 14, after his 8-week-old child was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA.) Deputies were initially called to a home on Shuler Road just after 9:00 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 11 to reports that the infant had stopped breathing.

“The infant first was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville where doctors diagnosed the baby with a brain bleed,” the sheriff’s office said. “The infant then was transferred to CHOA. Doctors at CHOA determined the infant had suffered abusive head trauma consistent with the baby’s head being violently jerked forward and backward.”

While the infant was hospitalized, deputies conducted a welfare check on the child’s twin, who they reported had a bruised leg…
