After some snow flurries fell in the North Georgia mountains Wednesday night into Thursday morning, forecasters are saying there is a chance more snow could come this weekend.
The National Weather Service’s (NWS) Peachtree City office issued a statement Thursday afternoon, saying it is monitoring a winter weather system that is expected to impact parts of the Southeastern U.S. Saturday night, Jan. 17, into Sunday morning, Jan. 18.
“There is a growing chance (15-30%) for snow of a 1/2″ or more in parts of the area,” the NWS statement said. “Confidence is VERY LOW in the forecast, but residents of GA should at least anticipate the possibility for travel impacts on Sunday.”
A map published by the NWS listed Gainesville as having a 17 percent chance of seeing a half-inch or more of snow Sunday, while parts of the North Georgia mountains, such as Dahlonega and Clayton, showed a greater than 20 percent chance…
