As parts of Northeast Georgia continue to clean up the mess left by freezing rain, sleet and snow from Winter Storm Fern last weekend, the National Weather Service (NWS) says more winter precipitation could be on the way.
The NWS in Peachtree City issued a statement Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 28, saying some snow could fall in North Georgia from Friday night, Jan. 30, to Saturday night, Jan. 31.
“Confidence is high in snow developing somewhere across the area, but lower confidence exists on the extent and potential amounts,” the NWS said. “Confidence is high in another round of extreme cold coming in with (and following) this storm system.”
A map issued by the NWS shows all of Northeast Georgia having at least a 50 percent chance of minor impacts from snowfall, with the higher chances for impacts being in the eastern part of the region, in counties like Banks, Habersham, Stephens, Franklin and Hart counties.
