Gainesville man arrested in street racing incident

A Gainesville man has been arrested and a driver remains at-large following an apparent street racing incident in Oakwood early Wednesday morning.

The Oakwood Police Department reported that officers observed a white Ford F150 and a red pickup truck side by side on Atlanta Highway northbound and Thurmond Tanner Parkway at 5:40 a.m.

When the traffic light on Atlanta Highway northbound turned green, both vehicles accelerated to a high rate of speed, racing on Atlanta Highway towards Frontage Road. The driver of the F150 continued northbound on Atlanta Highway towards Tumbling Creek. At the time, the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed, estimated to be approximately 80 miles per hour in 45 miles per zone. The F150 then made an erratic left turn onto Tumbling Creek, OPD said.
