SOCIAL CIRCLE, Ga. — 11Alive is digging into the impact new ICE facilities would have on Georgia taxpayers in both Oakwood and Social Circle.
A copy of a deed shows the Department of Homeland Security purchased a warehouse in Social Circle for more than $128 million. This is part of the plans to create a new ICE detention facility in metro Atlanta. It is one of two projects 11Alive has reported on in Walton and Hall Counties.
The Social Circle City Manager said the detention facility would have 8,500 beds. As for Oakwood, the city manager there said he understands the buildings will have a 1,500-person capacity and will be used as a processing facility where people will go before they are taken to the Social Circle location…
