The Forsyth County Government has announced plans for a new bypass road that aims to relieve traffic congestion in an area of the northern end of the county.
The county announced Friday, Feb. 13, that it is working with the Georgia Department of Transportation to build a new two-lane roadway that will start at the intersection of Matt Highway and Dr. Bramblett Road, extend north and then east to cross Elmo Road before ending by creating a four-way intersection with the entrance to the Matt Town Center on Bannister Road. The total length of the new road will be just under three-quarters of a mile.
Forsyth County District 1 Commissioner Kerry Hill said the goal of the project is to relieve traffic at the busy intersection of Bannister Road and Elmo Road.
“This is probably one of the worst intersections in my district,” Hill said in a video released by the county Friday. “There is an incredible amount of traffic that comes through here, and it’s a really tough intersection without a lot of room to sort of maneuver around.”…
