A Gainesville shelter has stepped in to aid after more than 50 cats were recovered in a hoarding intervention case in Stephens County.
The Humane Society of Northeast Georgia (HSNEGA) said in a statement Tuesday, Feb. 17, that it is providing emergency housing and medical support for 15 of the 57 cats that were recently rescued. The 15 that were brought to the Gainesville facility were those described by officials as “most vulnerable.”
“Many of the new arrivals are receiving treatment for conditions often associated with hoarding environments, including severe upper respiratory illness and significant dental disease,” the statement from the HSNEGA said. “To ensure the best possible outcomes, HSNEGA’s medical team is focused on stabilizing the most critical cases before they are cleared for adoption.”
