Homeland Security buys land for Oakwood ICE facility in $68M sale

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) now owns a plot of land in Hall County with the intentions of turning a warehouse into an ICE detention center, property records indicate.

According to the warranty deed, the federal government agreed to buy the land off Atlanta Highway in Oakwood, a city about eight miles south of Gainesville, for $68,162,500 on Feb. 18. The parcel previously belonged to CRP/AI Oakwood Owner LLC, a Delaware-based company.
