ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Many north Georgians reportedly saw hail come down Thursday night as a severe thunderstorm moved through.
A severe thunderstorm warning was in effect until 8:30 p.m. for Dawson, Fannin, Gilmer, Lumpkin and Pickens counties.
According to the Pickens County Emergency Management Agency, Highway 136 east of Jasper is impassible due to hail accumulation.
EMA Director Robby Westbrook said this “likely will be a very damaging severe weather event.”
Westbrook said there are multiple reports of damage to vehicles, and several car accidents due to slick roads “in areas where the hail core dumped multiple inches of hail ranging in size from peas to ping pong balls.”…
