Lawrenceville man pleads guilty to strangling ex-girlfriend, burning body in car

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A Lawrenceville man will spend the rest of his life in prison after pleading guilty to strangling his ex-girlfriend to death and burning her body in a car.

Jahir Sagahon, 32, was convicted of malice murder in the death of 28-year-old Rubi Maldonado-Nava in 2023.

“This defendant took a mother away from her child,” Gwinnett County District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson said. “We are pleased with this outcome and hope that the victim’s child, her family and her loved ones are able to find closure and a sense of justice from this outcome.”

On March 23, 2023, police were called to Maldonado-Nava’s home for a wellness check. They didn’t find her and were directed to Sagahon, the woman’s ex-boyfriend and father of her 3-year-old child…
