A Gainesville man has been charged with driving under the influence and serious injury by vehicle following a single-vehicle crash Sunday night.
The Hall County Sheriff’s Office said that deputies arrived at the scene of the crash on Gillsville Highway just west of Emory Griffin Road just before 3:45 a.m. on March 8 and found a Dodge Ram pickup truck overturned on the side of the roadway. The driver, identified as Alan Ruiz, 20, was standing outside the vehicle. His passenger, Ricardo Ruiz, 43, of Gainesville, was trapped inside the overturned vehicle.
A preliminary investigation reportedly revealed that Ruiz was driving southbound on Gillsville Highway when he drove off the side of the road and flipped the vehicle. His passenger suffered a broken leg in the crash. Ruiz suffered minor injuries and was treated at the hospital before being transported to the Hall County Jail on charges of DUI, failure to maintain lane and driving too fast for condition…
