Freeze Watch overnight Monday to Tuesday morning; rain, damaging winds, tornado potential
Winter is not going quietly this year. The National Weather Service at Peachtree City has issued a Freeze Watch from Monday evening through 11 a.m. Tuesday morning for portions of central, east central, north central, northeast, northwest, southeast, and west central Georgia. This includes Walton, Gwinnett and surrounding counties. Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 20 possible. Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Residents are urged to take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold and to prevent water pipes from freezing by draining or wrapping or allowing them to drip slowly.
In addition, the NWS in its Hazardous condition predictions is warning of the possibility this afternoon of isolated to scattered thunderstorms with the possibility of an isolated strong to severe thunderstorm with strong wind gusts possible. The strong cold front pushing through from the predawn hours Monday through the day is expected to bring a line of strong to severe thunderstorms. The primary hazard will be damaging winds with the potential for a few tornadoes.
Widespread freezing temperatures are expected Monday and Tuesday night…
