Some NEGA counties under Winter Weather Advisory until 11 p.m.

As a cold front sweeps behind a line of thunderstorms that impacted Northeast Georgia Monday morning, the National Weather Service (NWS) is placing some area counties under a winter weather advisory through the evening hours.

The NWS’ Peachtree City office issued a winter weather advisory for parts of North Georgia, including Dawson, Fannin, Gilmer, Lumpkin, Pickens, Towns, Union and White counties, until 11:00 p.m. The weather service says some light snowfall is possible in the far northern parts of the state.

“Snow is expected to start early this afternoon across portions of north and northwest GA…mainly along and north of I-20 and northwest of I85,” the weather service said in a statement. “Some light accumulations on grassy surfaces is possible with amounts of 1″ or so possible in higher elevations.”

The NWS advised that warm ground temperatures mean there are not expected to be any travel impacts from the potential snowfall. Forecasters also warned that sub-freezing temperatures are expected across North Georgia Monday night into Tuesday morning…
