Gainesville City Council approves luxury hotel and resort

The Gainesville City Council voted to approve a zoning request that would see a luxury hotel and resort come to the city following a public hearing on Tuesday.

The request from Capstone Property Group aimed to amend roughly 38 acres on the northeast side of Ivey Road, which had previously been zoned Planned Unit Development. The proposed project features a hotel that would have a maximum of 177 rooms, restaurant outlets, a luxury spa, a fitness center, an infinity pool, a sports pavilion, and pickleball courts. The resort would also feature seven two-story detached lakeside cottages and 14-duplex estate homes. The property is located in Ward 4 of the city.

Prior to the council’s Tuesday vote, the property had been approved for 540 high-rise condominiums, 60 single-family lots and a marina to include dry dock boat storage, gas sales, a restaurant and a convenience store.

The property in question is surrounded by residential homes and is adjacent to the Cresswind at Lake Lanier community in off of Browns Bridge Road…
