Law enforcement, bankers to hold scam prevention seminar in South Hall

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a seminar near Flowery Branch this week aimed at educating the public about the dangers of scams.

The sheriff’s office will host the “Don’t Take the Bait” community scam awareness event Wednesday, Mar. 25, at the Mulberry Creek Community Center on J.M. Turk Road from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The seminar will also feature representatives of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as well as Peach State Bank & Trust, United Community Bank and Wells Fargo Bank of Oakwood.

“What we’re really trying to do is talk in-depth with Hall County citizens about what’s going on with scamming,” sheriff’s office spokesperson B.J. Williams said. “People are getting scammed every single day, and they’re getting scammed out of lots of money, not just $100 or $200 here and there, but we’re talking about tens of thousands of dollars.”

Williams said while the sheriff’s office and other officials try to send out advisories about scams being reported in the community, those formats can limit how much information can be shared with the public at a time.
