Attorney representing Gerald Couch sues Interim Hall County Sheriff

The attorney that is defending Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch in an ongoing driving under the influence case has filed a lawsuit against the man serving as the Interim Sheriff of Hall County.

Blake Poole filed an injunction in Hall County Superior Court Monday against Chris Matthews, solely in his official capacity as Interim Sheriff. Matthews was sworn in to the role in March after Couch was suspended from his duties for 60 days by Georgia Governor Brain Kemp.

The petition filed on April 13, 2026 alleges that the Hall County Sheriff’s Office has withheld records that Poole had requested through the Georgia Open Records Act.

The petition said records requested included GPS log data for a county-issued vehicle operated by the District Attorney, as well as courthouse keycard access log records reflecting the District Attorney’s entry into and exit from the Hall County Courthouse…
