A single-vehicle traffic accident early Thursday morning led to an arrest after a 37-year-old Newnan man allegedly fled from an off-duty officer while under the influence.
According to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), Andrew Bradley Thompson was charged with DUI of multiple substances during the incident at around 3 a.m. Thursday.
“An off-duty Flowery Branch Police Department officer was actually traveling behind [Thompson] on Thompson Bridge Road,” HCSO Spokesperson B.J. Williams said. “Thompson actually pulled over just north of Lanier Elementary School … attempting to get the officer to pass him.”
Williams said when the off-duty officer did not go past Thompson due to him having difficulty maintaining his lane, Thompson made a U-turn and fled south on Thompson Bridge Road…
