Jefferson High School to move graduation indoors, Gainesville set for City Park amid weather

Amid potential thunderstorms Friday night, outdoor high school graduations are up in the air.

Gainesville City Schools Superintendent Jeremy Williams told AccessWDUN that they are going to move their Friday graduation indoors to Saturday if it is called for lightning beforehand.

If there is lightning during the ceremony, the protocol will be similar to a football game: evacuate the premises and wait for 30-minutes from the last nearby lightning strike to resume.

If resuming is not possible, graduation would be called according to Williams. Golf carts will begin shuttling attendees from parking to City Park at 5 p.m., and gates open at 6 p.m…
